CABINET COUNCIL on airport estate security September 2026

Airport estate security and safety*:

*The Prime Minister, Head of Government, orders the implementation of a national programme to restore and secure the State’s land assets across all airport platforms*

In the face of the gradual and persistent occupation of certain airport rights-of-way,

This is the main resolution from the Cabinet Council held today at the Étoile Building, on airport estate security and safety.

Likely to disrupt air navigation, the Government is prescribing new security measures for airport estate security and safety

To guarantee flight safety, airworthiness and the integrity of airport infrastructure,

the Government of the Republic is scrutinising its airport map in order to align with compliance with the national and international standards in force.

From Yaoundé to Douala

From Maroua to Garoua or Ngaoundéré;

From Bafoussam to Koutaba,

In Bamenda, Buea, Bertoua as in Kribi and other airport platforms in the country,

the dashboard indicators point to the same risks.

Risks to airport infrastructure in the absence of secured spaces free from any occupation incompatible with civil aviation requirements; risks to populations living near airport platforms;

security risks due to insufficient perimeter fencing

and patrol roads to prevent intrusion by unauthorised persons and other malicious acts.

Attracted by uncontrolled dumps, markets, livestock farming and agricultural crops,

birds and wild animals constitute another significant risk to flight safety.

Much has been done in terms of preventing and curbing irregular occupation of the airport estate.

However, the Government does not intend to stop halfway down the runway.

This is evidenced by the diagnosis made and the proposals put forward by the two co-pilots on board:

the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest MASSENA NGALE BIBEHE, and the Minister of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure, Henry EYEBE AYISSI.

The gradual and persistent occupation of certain airport rights-of-way by populations, despite the particular constraints attached to the operation and securing of these highly sensitive infrastructures, is a concern that is drawing the attention of international experts.

This is evidenced by the airport security audit announced by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for next November in Cameroon.

These were the Prime Minister, Head of Government’s remarks in his opening statement.

Accordingly, Joseph DION NGUTE orders the implementation of a national programme to restore and secure airport platforms

while also requesting that the concerned rights-of-way be classified as part of the State’s artificial public domain and that aeronautical easements be secured.

In any event, for Joseph DION NGUTE, this is a matter of importance, as the security and safety of our airport platforms affect the lives of people and their property, and contribute to the credibility of Cameroon as a destination.
